2 Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (KJV)
Every one of us living in this present world may have genuine reasons to cower in fear owing to the persistent and current incidents experienced around the globe. Incidents ranging from rape, armed robbery, suicide, and genocide, use of chemical weapon, nuclear bombs, hurricanes, wars, health crises, and rate of divorce, natural disasters, and government shut downs, terrorism, fall of stocks, economic meltdowns, car and plane crashes, lay-offs, downsizing, unemployment to poverty, and political instabilities.
Fear is an unpleasant emotion or thought that you have when you are frightened or worried by something dangerous, painful or bad that is happening or might happen.
In spite of technological advancement and scientific breakthroughs, these problems tends to linger without any workable solution proffered to them. It is indicative of the fact that all these fear prone or causative incidents have a spiritual root and undertone.
It is a well-established fact that man’s physical effort or wisdom in its apex or highest degree is brought into total incapacitation when met with challenges only the spiritual can solve.
However, the scriptures has a ray of hope and comfort for all who believe in God through his son Jesus Christ. According to 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (KJV).
Satan is the root cause of all the evil experienced world-over. The scripture tells us that He has but only a short time. He orchestrates evil and brings fear into lives thereby creating an erroneous impression of God to the whole world of being unjust and cause behind their miseries. This in turn fuels the unbelief in their hearts towards God. That’s the reason some group or sect came up with the conclusion, ‘there is no God.’
“For what if some did not believe? Shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?”
For our information, there is a living God. Who rules over the universe. His name is Jehovah. Some people feel that there is no infinite intelligence behind the cosmos. They attribute creativity to ‘Big bang.’ Fine. What caused the Big bang explosion? A force must have brought about the explosion. In physics, Force =mass x acceleration. Who created the mass and who or what accelerated the mass? Who was behind that force? Of course God is not a force, because force is a physical quantity. God is not inanimate. He is of course an embodiment of unfathomable and unsearchable wisdom. What kind of ‘big bang’ could have brought about variety and diversity in species of living things with a touch of beauty and ecstasy? There is God! Some people are afraid of coming to terms with reality. God is reality.
Fear is demonic! You don’t need to be afraid of death, losing your mind, losing your job, investment, your family, your loved ones, career, your dreams, aspirations or your purpose when you have God in your life working for your good. It doesn’t matter what had worked against you in the past, God can turn it for your good. Romans 8:28: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Note what this scripture says: “…all things work together for good to them that love God…” It did not say: ‘all things work together for everyone concerned.’ No! It did say it only works for ‘those who love God.’ Love for God destroys our fears and anything capable of making us afraid. Perfect love casts away fear.
1John 4:18: “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.”
Fear is not of God. Fear is a demonic spirit. It comes with torment. One characteristic of demons is that they torment their captives. Demons are evil spirit behind fear. They work by auto-suggestion, lies and false evidences.
God does not want any of his children to cower in fear. Maybe you are living in fear of rejection, fear of failure of fear of death. It is dangerous! Fear is destructive. Fear comes with torment. It incapacitates. It limits our efficiency and fuels our doubts towards the very principles we subscribe to. Fear produces anxiety, depression, worry, High blood pressure, leading to mental and physical health crises.
Satan unleashes fear and terror in the world in order to make souls faint, discouraged and loose hope in the living God – Jehovah. Satan’s main focus is to steal, kill and destroy. He first of all tries to steal people’s heart away from God.
Fear is a spirit. If we refuse to walk in fear, the enemy, Satan will not have the opportunity to operate in our lives. He needs a deposit of fear in our lives in order to carry out his purpose for our lives. That’s the reason why we need to keep fear at a distance from our lives.
When we come under the bondage of fear, we activate and receive Satan’s destiny for our lives per time. The destiny he confers on his captives is to steal, Kill and destroy the purpose of God for their lives according to John 10:10. “The thief (Satan) cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy…”
The enemy is in the business of projecting and planting fear into the lives of people. If we are bold enough to rebuke and resist him, we incapacitate him completely. James 4:7b “…Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
Fear in all its ramifications is not normal. It is not okay. “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
This invariably means that God does not want us to live in fear. Give no room to the spirit of fear today!
Fear is a spirit. The only way to keep fear out of our lives is to ensure that we are born-again committed children of God based on current relationship; coupled with the operation of faith emanating from the word of God. Romans 10:17 “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Our faith should be rested on the word of God (which is the will of God and his promises). Find out what the will and promises of God for you are.
Colossians 3:16a says “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom…”
We need a thorough study and a quality dose of the word of God in our lives to activate real faith and influence our consciousness in regards to God’s promises and will. “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom…” The Greek word translated richly here is ‘Plousios’ meaning ‘abundance.’ ‘Richly’ in this scripture also refers to the quality in terms of measure of the word we are to receive into our lives.
Fear cannot be overcome by positive thinking, it needs something more powerful than that. That’s the word of God!
Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
It is the assurance and persuasion from God’s word that brings faith!
Hebrew 11:1-2 “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. FOR BY IT THE ELDERS OBTAINED A GOOD REPORT.”
God had not given us over to fear. He has however empowered us and given us love shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit and given us soundness of mind. Romans 5:5b “…the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.”
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
The Greek word translated power in the above scripture is ‘dunamis’ which also means miraculous power or ability. Ephesians 1:19: “And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power…”
By extension, the key to overcoming fear is to be empowered against it by God’s miraculous power that worketh exceedingly in us that believe, founded on the foundation of love and maintenance of sound mind (empowered study that brings discipline).
Everything in the kingdom of God operates by faith that worketh by love. In contrast, everything in the kingdom of Satan operates by fear that worketh by wickedness and hatred.
God’s kingdom is founded on love-unconditional agape kind of love. The basis and foundation of Satan’s kingdom is selfishness and wickedness.
People, oftentimes are afraid that God may not come true to his promises. The battle of what God says versus false evidences and what the enemy says was set in motion starting from the Garden of Eden. Genesis 3:1-4.
“Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, we may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, ye shall not surely die.”
Satan keeps suggesting to us through carefully planned incidents in order to give us a false impression of God not being true to his promises.
Faith in God and in his promises is a lasting panacea to solving all of our life fears.
The scriptures in Romans 1:17b says: ‘as it is written, the just shall live by faith.”
Let me explain that a little. This means that the just lives by faith daily. He never retires or puts his faith to rest. The does not procrastinate or postpone his faith for another day or for another challenge. No! He incorporate faith into his daily lifestyle. Additionally, through the operation of faith that worketh by love, the just shall thrive, overcome fear, earn a living, get his miracles, get his prayers answered, better his lot and obtain good report in life.
Through faith, the just shall ‘LIVE’ and not die prematurely. ‘LIVE’ here implies leading a quality and fulfilled life. Praise God! Faith is it!
We cannot overcome fear with beliefs founded on religious creed, human traditions, philosophy, mental persuasion or prowess, men’s theories, ideologies and myths. All these, as mentioned appeals to the intellect and the ego of man making them desirable. Hebrew 4:12 tells us that the word of God is powerful. It takes power from the word of God to combat the insurgency and upsurge of fear obtainable in our today’s world. It takes only faith in God’s undiluted word to receive supply, healing, produce miracles and receive a change of status and breakthrough; more so, overcome fear.
God loves you and He is with you. You are a king’s kid. With God on your side, there is nothing outside of you that can harm you. Do not fear. Fear is a demonic spirit. Remember that greater is He that is in you than the spirit fear operates with. Fear is not normal. It is not okay. God does not want us to live in fear.
Romans 8:31: “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?”
God is with you; nobody or force can harm you. No need will incapacitate you. He is well able to provide according to Philippians 4:19. “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
1Peter:3:12: “For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.”
It is important to note that prayer is an invaluable tool to combat the activities of the enemy. When we pray, we authorize God to act on our behalf. When we pray, we unleash and enact the will and purpose of God for our life per time. Rebuke that spirit of fear in the name of Jesus! Train your thoughts to brood over the word of God. Think faith thoughts. Confession is possession. Begin to confess the progression you want your life to take. Do not speak words that stimulate or encourage fear. Counter your fears with the word of God.
It is dangerous and frustrating to expect deliverance, protection or assurance from a God you do not know and not willing to know. God’s promises and assurances are for his legitimate righteous children. Are you a child of God? Are you born again? If not, you are a perpetual captive in the hands of fear.
Accept Jesus today by repenting of your sins and making a serious commitment to following him all the way. God bless you.
