John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life”.

He came to give us everlasting or eternal life:

The primary purpose that made Christ to give his life for our sake is not for material gains or to give us material blessings, but to give us everlasting or eternal life if we believe in him.

 

Note that contrary to the opinion of some people that God does not care about the human race and that there is nothing we can do, good or evil that can affect him; God demonstrated his care and love for a perverse, corrupt, wicked and sinful world by giving out in pains his only begotten son as a scapegoat or sacrifice for all our sins.
